Hi Kelly,
I hope you don't mind me sending the following request as a blog comment. Pastor Bob wants to encourage the use of blogs, as you know, and I think you and I are the most comfortable with the technology. Thus, my request via blog!
The Cool Events Team has a couple of requests as we move forward. We'd like to ensure that parents send their children in with towels, super-soakers and sunscreen on Thursday when we will have a water slide for the children. The super-soakers are to keep the kids occupied while waiting in line for the slide. Lou will also be assisting in this effort by periodically gathering the children in groups of 50 for photos while they are waiting for the slide. We're assuming here you are sending a letter to parents and would like these three requests included in that letter.
We also wanted to touch base with you with regard to some of the timing. We know for sure the Coast Guard fly-by will be at 1:30 on Tuesday so we'd like the events team to have the 1:00 to 2:00 time slot if possible. Also we thought it might be good to let the children have a couple of hours Thursday so they can enjoy the water slide a little longer, say 10:00 to Noon.
Finally, we were thinking we could leave the water slide up for the camp volunteers the evening of Thursday. We've rented the slide from 9am on Thursday to 9am on Friday. We were hoping that, after the volunteers had their share of fun Thursday evening, they might be willing to deflate the slide, fold it up somehow, and put it inside the church for safekeeping. If this is possible it might be helpful to have one or two of them watch the slide being put together on Thursday morning.
Thanks so much for allowing me to blog this. I know that we have special role to play in spreading the word of Christ through this medium.

Hi Brian!
You caught me just in time. We are hopefully sending out the letter today or tomorrow.
I will definitely include the need for kids to wear bathing suits and bring towels, sunscreen, and a change of clothes on Thursday. I am a little hesitant on asking parents to send super soakers, just because we want to keep the camp as easy as possible for parents so that it's really a blessing them (thus the reason we are providing lunch rather than asking them to pack one each day)
I love the super soaker idea because I think it would be a ton of fun, but I think there are probably a lot of kids who don't have super soakers whose parents would need to make a special trip out to buy one just for this.
Maybe we could do something else with the Thursday 10-12 time slot, like have 7 different water activity stations that the kids rotate through (with one of the stations being the slide). We could have about 20 kids in each group, and spend 15-20 minutes at each station. One of the stations could be short and also include getting their picture taken.
We could even call Thursday Water Olympics Day and have activities after lunch as well. Maybe we would just not have Crafts that day--I will talk to Pam about that (they might actually like that idea because they weren't sure they would need all week for crafts).
The after-lunch activities could also be rotations that include the kids getting to go on the slide again (that way we get good use out of it.) Maybe the Cool Events Team & the Games & Activities Team could collaborate together about Thursday.
I think having Thursday night as staff waterslide night is a great idea too! I'll check in with Chris about that--he's in charge of the counselor activities.

Hi Kelly,
Thanks so much for sending this out. I agree with you on the super soaker. They might be cost prohibitive for some families and we should be respectful of that.
Perhaps we could have volunteers bring in any they have and we can have a few of the counselors soaking the students as they wait in line for the slide? Perhaps water baloons? Filling the baloons would keep the kids active. Also, Lou will indeed be pulling kids aside for phots during the water slide activity and this will help to shorten the line periodically.
